African American scholarships

Do you belong to African American minority groups? Are you seeking for the university that would provide the African American scholarships? Actually, hardly many students know about it but the fact is there are many universities across the globe bestowing the needs of African American groups with scholarships. Just like scholarships have been made available for other minority groups like Hispanic, Asian Pacific minority groups, there is also a minority scholarship for African American students.

African American is the largest minority group settling in the United States. Hence, African American students can find profuse scholarships opportunities.  Though there are universities providing African American scholarships, there are universities that would require students to be first generation minority students and other would merely require the demonstration of student’s financial need. Unlike other minority groups, African American minority groups are still not entirely represented in the society. To uplift their status, many prominent organizations have been established with an aim to render the full ride scholarships for African American students.african american scholarships

To help the students from the minority group to get the African American scholarships, I have listed some of the top-notch organizations that are providing scholarships to these groups. Go through the entire list and see if any organization or universities suits or match your preference and scholarships requirements.

  • Walt Disney Company UNCF Corporate Scholars Program

This African American scholarship is made available for all the students of high school belonging to African American group. The award is offered to 40 students annually by United Negro College Fund. A total of $5000 is provided for three years in the row including $1000 annually being provided to selected students. The scholarship application deadline has not yet been published for this year, however, is expected to be as the prior year. The date mentioned is below is based on previous year dateline date.

  • Marcia Silverman Minority Student Award

Marcia Silverman Minority Student Award is awarded by Public Relations Student Society of America to all the students of minority groups including African Americans of the Public Relations Student. The award is offered to one selected student with $5,000 annual award amount. Interested can apply to its scholarships online from the website of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

  • PRSA Diversity Multicultural Scholarship

PRSA Scholarship award is offered to the juniors / seniors students belonging to African-American/Black, Hispanic, and other minority groups. $1,500 is annually awarded to two students. The award is bestowed by Public Relations Student Society of America. To apply students must submit the course completion official transcripts via the website of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

  • Dr. Dan J. and Patricia S. Pickard Scholarship

This award is made available for the African American men residing in Dallas, Texas, etc. The award is provided to one to two students annually by The Dallas Foundation. The Award Amount is $1,000 which is annually given and is renewable for three years more if the student earns 2.5 or higher Grade point average (GPA) and the students are enrolled full time. Students can apply for this scholarship via The Dallas Foundation website.

  1. HBCU Connect Minority Student Scholarship

HBCU Connect Minority Student Scholarship is an award for all those minority students attending black college or university. An award amounts $1,000 is awarded by HBCUConnect.com, approximately to four students annually. The scholarships cannot be transferred to other academic institutions and is designated to only one school. Likewise, the scholarship award can only be used for tuition and not for the other purpose. You can apply for this scholarship by filling out the Historically Black College or University (HBCU) member registration form by heading to HBCUConnect.com.

  1. NBMBAA National Undergraduate Scholarship Program

NBMBAA National Undergraduate Scholarship award is available for all the African American students who are planning to enroll in a university. The award is presented by National Black MBA Association, Inc with the amount of $5,000. The number of awards varies annually, however at least one award is annually offered. An interested student must first fill up the application which includes one’s scholastic and personal information.  Its applications form is available online in the National Black MBA Association, Inc. website.

  • UNCF/Dell Corporate Scholars Program

Award amount $5,000 is African American scholarships awarded by United Negro College Fund to the U.S. college sophomores and juniors who belongs to minority groups. There are no specific numbers of awards they offers, as it varies every year. To apply you should head to the UNCF online application system. Its applications are available on the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) website.

  • Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship

The award is offered by Illinois Student Assistance Commission for Illinois residing, graduate and undergraduate African American students. The number of awards offered is not specific as they mention it depends on the among of available funding and number of students eligible for it. The award amount is renewable for eight to twelve quarters. Similarly, awarded students must re-apply to it, by completing the Minority Teachers of Illinois (MTI) Scholarship Program application each year. The deadline date has not yet been published thus, is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline mentioned below is merely the tentative based on previous year.

  • Rosewood Family Scholarship Program

Up to 25 awards offered annually in Rosewood Family Scholarship Program to the minority groups of U.S. undergraduate students. This award is provided by Florida Department of Education, Office of Student Financial Assistance. Award Amount $6100 is awarded annually. if the student passes the FAFSA each year followed by maintaining the GPA of 2.0 or higher than theirs scholarship is automatically renewable. The scholarship application deadline has not yet been fixed and is expected to be same as prior year.  The date mentioned below is tentative based on last year’s date.
